Quick info
About Kyoto Sushi & Grill
Kyoto Sushi & Grill is a Japanese restaurant on Hurst Street in Birmingham, built around an all-you-can-eat buffet. Guests order in rounds with a set number of items per round, and sides do not count toward that limit. The sushi menu covers nigiri, maki, sashimi and speciality rolls, including seared salmon and beef nigiri and a hand roll. Shrimp and prawn dishes sit alongside the raw fish, and the dessert list includes tempura banana. Green tea and iced teas are available to drink. The kitchen also runs a halal menu, and the staff are aware of gluten allergens when guests ask.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the all-you-can-eat sushi, praising fresh fish and fast service. Diners name the salmon, tuna, octopus, eel and shrimp, along with seared salmon and beef nigiri, an enormous hand roll and creative speciality rolls. Close behind are the staff, described as friendly, welcoming and attentive, with one noting how considerate they were about gluten allergens and another saying they explained the unique ordering system and the Halal menu. Desserts and drinks also draw praise, including the tempura banana, green tea and iced teas. One reviewer who doesn't eat sushi still found plenty to enjoy. On the downside, one reviewer says the toilets have a very strong unpleasant smell and need renovation, and another finds much of the food oil fried and a bit heavy. One calls it on the pricier side, and the small snack sized dishes are suited to sharing. A Valentine's Day diner was surprised with a chocolate and cherry ice cream cake.

“I’ve been coming here regularly, and it’s honestly one of my favourite sushi places. The food is always fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The service is consistently excellent, and everyone is so welcoming. A special thank you to George, who always goes above and beyond to make us feel welcome. He’s friendly, attentive, and genuinely cares about his customers. People like him are a big reason why I keep coming back. My only suggestion for improvement would be the toilets. They could really use some renovation, and unfortunately, there’s a very strong unpleasant smell. It doesn’t reflect the high standard of the restaurant. Other than that, I absolutely love this place and will continue recommending it to friends and family. Keep up the great work!”

“Sushi yesterday at @kyotosushi_birmingham ✨ 🍣 The quality and freshness of the fish were outstanding, with every piece beautifully presented and packed with flavour. The salmon, tuna, octopus, eel and shrimp were all excellent, and the premium selections were particularly impressive. The variety was superb, from classic nigiri and maki to creative speciality rolls loaded with toppings, sauces and textures. The hand roll was enormous and filled with fresh ingredients, while the seared salmon and beef nigiri were definite highlights. Everything tasted fresh, expertly prepared and clearly made with care. If you’re a sushi lover, Kyoto Sushi is well worth a visit. Great quality, all-you-can-eat, and an excellent selection of both traditional and modern sushi 🍱”
