About Café du Parc

Café du Parc is a French-owned coffee shop in Bideford, at 39 Kingsley Rd, with doors that open straight onto the park. The French menu is built around crepes and buckwheat galettes, and the kitchen also serves croque monsieur. A daily specials board runs alongside the regular menu, so there is something beyond the fixed dishes. For something sweet, the patisseries include a pear and frangipani tart, and a selection of gluten free cakes is available for those avoiding gluten. The café also has a separate coffee kiosk.

Customer Review Summary

Busy periods draw the sharpest complaints. One diner was told no food could be ordered before a reservation, then had a crepe order lost after 30 minutes and was asked to move tables again, so they left hungry after paying for drinks. Another waited 15 minutes at the coffee kiosk without acknowledgement. A third found the lunch menu complicated, the waitress too busy to explain it, and the buckwheat crepe cold and tasteless with a cheese, broccoli and walnut filling. One reviewer did not care for the coffee, while another called it excellent.

“Shocking service at the coffee kiosk. I don’t think four members of staff walking past without checking in is good customer service. Leaving a customer waiting for 15 minutes before acknowledgement is customer service 101. Money was taken without eye contact or manners and with little acknowledgement again! Certainly no please/ thank you or sorry to keep you waiting. When my coffee arrived again no apologies for the wait and when pointed out the bad service I received my response was just excuses of how busy they were. It costs u nothing to check in with customers that are waiting when we politely point that out train your staff to take the criticism with good grace.”

“Everything was spot on. Food, service, atmosphere and location. The bad reviews must be from people who love to complain.”

“Great menu and food was delicious, best crepe outside of Brittany!”

“Too busy today, the service wasn’t good. Menu for lunch is complicated and the waitress too busy to be bothered to explain or wait for your order. I had the buckwheat crepe? Pancake? Wrap? It was cold and tasteless. Filling Cheese broccoli and walnuts, sounded nice but wasn’t. Pear and frangipani tart and coffee was delicious. Portions are not suitable for small appetites. Menu needs an interpreter and if it’s busy don’t expect any help from staff. Shame we’ve been here a lot and today was not good experience.”

“Very disapointed visit today! We had to wait for a table, which was a good sign as they were busy and lots of reserved tables BUT we asked to sit on a table which had 40mins untill a reservation. We were bought a menu but when the member of staff came back to take our order was told we couldn't order any food as there wasnt enough time! Mmm then why bring us a food menu? We ordered drinks as we were there. We then spotted a table that had an hour on it so asked to move there so we could order a crepe (something quick). All good, and crepes ordered. 30 mins later we asked a member of staff if they knew how much longer our food would be as we also had a child with us, to be told they had lost our ticket and our food wasnt ordered!! Told if we wanted to still have the crepes we would have to move again..... really! When asked to see the manager, he appologised and said thats all he could do..... we left after paying for our drinks, hungry and very disappointed. Will not be back!!”
