About Y Stablau - Stables Bar

Y Stablau - Stables Bar is a village inn style restaurant and bar in Betws Y Coed, based at the Royal Oak Hotel. The menu includes the Snowdon burger and fish and chips, with vegetarian options and a gluten free Welsh rarebit, and the kitchen accommodates allergies. Evenings bring eclectic music nights, with a live band playing around 7pm to 8pm. In winter, pop-up food and craft markets run alongside the regular service. Dogs are welcome. Tables are first-come, since the bar does not take reservations, and it can be hard to find a seat at peak times. Orders go through the bar or the counter inside, so have your table number ready before you order.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the outdoor setting, with fairy lights, evening band entertainment and a pub atmosphere several call lovely. Close behind is the food. The Snowdon burger is described as juicy, the fish and chips as fresh with crispy batter and hot chips, and the creme brulee as a perfect balance of flavors. One reviewer calls the Americano spot on, and another notes the gluten free options cost the same when swapped in. The main complaints concern ordering and consistency. Orders go through the bar or an online menu, and one reviewer needed six reconnects on poor wifi to get an order through. Others struggled to find a table at peak times. Reports on the food are split: dry roast chicken, a lasagna with no pasta sheets, a gamy lamb chop, a pork rib with an off aftertaste and an overly sweet dessert. Staff are called kind and helpful by some and unfriendly by others. One diner who ordered a gluten free dish alongside a standard one received two gluten free Welsh rarebits.

“Had lunch here on Sunday - found the service poor as my partner ordered one gluten free dish and another standard dish but we both received the gluten free Welsh rarebit and had the pleasure of paying £11 for this!! Not at all acceptable and for that price would have expected two pieces of bread to compare to the standard none gluten free option.... Also, £4 for a pepsi?? What a rip off”

“The atmosphere is nice and outdoor sitting is cute. No service charge so we didn’t expect any service either, which is fair. Really bad food. The lamb chop tastes gamy and the pork rib has a boar taint after taste…. Sweet potato fries is nice. Dessert is way too sweet.”

“Lovely outside pub environment and atmosphere. Quite difficult to get a table during peak times but worth hanging around if you’re looking for a nice place to eat and drink in the evening. They do have band entertainment from around 7pm- 8pm as well. The food quality was fine with the meat quality not fantastic and the portions are sizeable enough. Pick here if you’re after the atmosphere and setting for drinks but you should find better if you’re after more than just pub standard food. Prices are fair for the region.”

“This place has a lovely outdoor vibe with fairy lights and a cute setup. This restaurant does not take any reservations. First night we were in betsw y coed, we wanted to dine here but could not get a table. Next evening we tried again. Food is decent with veg options available. The creme brulee was too good with a perfect balance of flavors.”

“Y Stablau is a great place to eat in Betws-y-Coed, Wales. The food was excellent, with delicious options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. It’s definitely a must-try if you’re visiting the area. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and relaxing, making the overall dining experience even better. Highly recommended!”
