  “ABBA brunch with friends. Layla Kennedy was excellent on vocals. Fun atmosphere, great selection of food & drinks. Ingrida was the best waitress. We never waited for a drink, they were flowing. She worked so hard, and in the middle of a heatwave! Will definitely be returning. Thank you Ingrida!”

  “Booked the bottomless brunch after having been here for the BB twice previously and I regret it. The menu has been changed so there's not as much choice as before - which I would be fine with if the quality was good but it wasn't. The flatbread was stale, the knife couldn't cut through it, and the staff admitted the drinks are premade cocktail juice with added alcohol which made them too sweet and sickly. The drinks weren't even served in the right type of glass, it was just whatever was at hand. Would not go back for a meal or cocktails.”

  “Went for pre- match drinks and sat in the beer garden. Found a bench table free and ordered some drinks on the app. They took a little longer than expected and the 2 pinter drinks were just 2 x 1 pints glasses. Food was ordered which came out quickly and tasted very nice. 2 small plates for £15 which did the job. When we asked for the football to be put on the TV, again it took quite a while and was only put on after a gentle reminder at the bar.”

  “Had a great time with my friends here. The atmosphere was amazing and we felt so welcome. The food was fresh and delicious and we had no complaints. My favourite was the pizza so definitely recommend. We interacted with the lovely girl named Hattie who really made our experience a 10/10 !! Couldn’t recommend this place more.”

  “As regulars we were so disappointed today. We arrived on Saturday afternoon for our table booked at 1:30pm, it was no busier than a usual weekend, there was 7 of us, 3 children 5 and under. We ordered food at 1:45pm and was told the wait was 45 minutes which is average for a weekend (it’s usually 15-20 min on a normal weekday). At 3:15pm we asked where our food was as it had been 1hour and 30 minutes (double the expected wait we’d been told) the kids were starving, we all were! We were told it was being plated up, we gave it another 20 minutes, generously… before realising it in fact wasn’t being plated up - my father in law then went down to the bar and the lady told him she will check with the kitchen if it’s being cooked… after 2 hours?! He rightly asked to cancel it and paid for our drinks tab. I then went down to the bar to double check it had been cancelled before we left and reiterated it had been 2 hours! We got no apology whatsoever, no concern for the children who were crying because they were so hungry, no offer of any type of compensation at all, not even a discount on our drink bill (which was only £30/£40 anyway!) nothing! We were very understanding, we could have forgiven a mistake, we could have understood if they were struggling if they were understaffed but the customer service was just appalling, they didn’t give a toss! Completely ruined our opinion of them as a pub, such a shame, it wasn’t hard to be apologetic, it’s basic customer service skills!”

  “The pub is so cosy, with old beams and loads of atmosphere. We have an event catered by the pub and had sausage rolls were amazing. The best I've had. The wine was delicious and the service fast and friendly. .I'd love to go back if I lived closer, but the pub is in Essex and I'm in the West Country.. I recommend it to anyone.”

  “Absolutely loved our visit to The Hoy and Helmet. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming, relaxed, and full of character — exactly what you want from a great pub. It was clean, comfortable, and had a really friendly vibe that made us feel at home straight away. The service was excellent. Staff were attentive, polite, and genuinely welcoming without being overbearing. We were served promptly and made to feel valued as customers, which makes such a difference. Overall, The Hoy and Helmet is a fantastic pub with a great atmosphere and top-notch service. We had a really enjoyable experience and will definitely be returning. Highly recommended.”
