About Madame Pho
Madame Pho is a Vietnamese restaurant in Belfast at 17 Botanic Ave, with wood-panelled walls and table service in a small dining space. The menu centres on pho, with beef, chicken and vegan bowls served with fresh herbs and bean sprouts. Rice plates come with grilled pork neck skewers, prawn, a crispy spring roll and a fried egg, and curries and noodle bowls round out the mains. Crispy chicken wings arrive with a spicy tip and pair with Bia Saigon beer. The drinks list also covers craft beer, cocktails and coffee. Payment is cash only and general credit cards are not accepted, so diners should bring cash with them.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the pho, praising a rich, comforting broth, fresh herbs and bean sprouts, and a beef pho and vegan pho that left no complaints. Close behind are the crispy chicken wings, paired by one diner with Bia Saigon beer, and the rice plates, including grilled pork neck with coconut curry sauce described as spicy and creamy, plus prawn and pork neck skewers with a crispy spring roll. Coffee and cocktails also draw praise. Portions are called generous and fairly priced, and servers are described as kind and attentive, with one double-checking an allergy with the kitchen. Complaints are small but specific: the chicken in the chicken pho was slightly dry, the duck rice plate came with pieces of fried skin and fat, service was slow for taking orders and clearing tables, and the small room feels tight. One reviewer notes that general credit cards are not accepted and suggests grabbing cash from the nearby ATM.

“Had a fantastic meal here yesterday. The food was absolutely delicious and arrived at the table looking fresh and well-presented. Everything we ordered was packed with flavor. The Bia Saigon beer paired perfectly with the crispy chicken wings, which were cooked to perfection. I really appreciated the attention to detail in the presentation, especially the generous portion of fresh herbs and bean sprouts served with the soup. I cannot wait to come back. It is a great spot for anyone looking for a high-quality, satisfying meal on Botanic Avenue.”

“Food is very enjoyable, chicken in the chicken pho was slightly dry, but tasted very good when combined with the broth. Vegan pho was very nice, no complaints. Cocktails are very nice and affordable. Service could have been faster both for clearing tables and taking the initial order but thats no big issue. But the server was very considerate and double checked with the kitchen when I mentioned an allergy. Helpful as well that the allergies are available with the menu online. Would recommend a visit.”

“Visited here a few years back when it opened and before its rapid expansion. Maybe here is still the best. Friendly knowledgeable waiter and very reasonably priced. Downside they still don’t accept general credit cards - don’t let that put you off- grab some cash in the nearby ATM !”

“Per my 12 year old: “insane food, really good service”. I agree! We got a variety of items and specials and were very happy with each. The waitress and hostess were both so kind and attentive. Lots of gluten free options available. Would absolutely come back!”

“There used to be a Madame Pho on the Lisburn Road. Now it’s a ramen shop. I wonder why? Perhaps a rebrand… Which is why I was delighted to spot one on Botanic Avenue. I must admit, dear reader, that I did frequent this establishment when it was situated on the city’s cafe artery. I’m glad to say the food and service have not changed. Crispy chicken wings. In a sweet batter with this delicious spicy tip. Perfect, but not thinning. Then the duck rice plate. This was also very good. A demerit however due to serving me essentially pieces of fried skin and fat. Perhaps this is an attempt to make you feel more than your actually getting, but I would have preferred these bits removed as they are effectively inedible and throw off the rice egg duck divison. A massive shoutout to the coconut curry sauce for keeping it as spicy and creamy as they come. Service was very good. Typically you have to specify that you’d like your starter before your main (as otherwise it all comes at once). I had forgotten this fact but the waitress reminded me. Anyway it was a very successful lunch experience. I’ll be back!”
