About Boombox Belfast

Boombox Belfast is a gay night club at 108 Donegall St in Belfast, and one of the last gay clubs in the city. Door staff check guests at the entrance, and an entry fee is charged at the door. Anyone who wants to skip the guesswork can put their name on the guest list beforehand. The Maverick bar adjoins the club, so guests can step out to it and have their hand stamped to re-enter Boombox. A DJ plays music at the club.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers who enjoyed Boombox point to a lively dance floor that never feels overcrowded, with room to dance and no massive queue for the toilets. One calls the Saturday DJ brilliant, though another has heard the music can be hit and miss. One group who put their names on the list beforehand were welcomed and all got in. A bouncer who found a lost phone and another who was kind to an upset guest both earn warm thanks. The door is the recurring complaint. Two reviewers describe being refused re-entry after stepping out to the Maverick bar, told they had "too much to drink" or were "stumbling down the street", and both dispute it. One felt it was a money grab after paying the entry fee, and says the bouncer stayed stern when she tried to reason with him. Another says the fee ranged widely on non-event nights. A first-timer who admits drinking too much still called the night a blast, ending with a McDonald's breakfast the next day.

“Thank you so much to the bouncer that found my phone tonight, you were so friendly and understanding! I can’t thank you enough! The atmosphere is great here, it’s never overcrowded there’s always room to dance and the toilets never have a massive queue (like kremlin) but there is a lively vibe with ACTUAL gay people!! Honestly best club in Belfast.”

“after paying a six pound entry fee we were denied entry back into the club after just 10 minutes. we stepped outside to visit the maverick and get some fresh air and when we tried to go back in we were told that my friend was “stumbling down the street” and that she had “too much to drink tonight”. my friend and i hadnt been down the street we went round the side so dont know how she was stumbling down the street seems like a money grab and a way to take advantage of young girls. extremely rude bouncer aswell as when i tried to reason with him and say we hadnt been down the street maybe you saw someone else he was very stern and set in that she wasnt coming back in. first time going and wont be going back”

“Please make sure you are not from other race because their all staff is racist and abusive how do I know I experienced that so just giving you my experience btw I don't drink alcohol and was there for 1 minute. Please it's humble request to everyone be careful at that place , and the people who behave very bad with me is yazik and supported by his manager that ha has right to abuse use.”

“Me and my boyfriend attended here tonight on Thursday 24th September as we had enjoyed our night with the drag queens in Ulster and they had gave us a booklet for free entry, we got in we’re having so much fun until my boyfriend touched my arm that I had gotten bloods taken from which was still sore the bouncer seen me pull my arm back and two seconds my boyfriend was pulled outside I followed them, the bouncer said that my boyfriend was not allowed back in as he was “too drunk” when I was as drunk as which he could see, I also did show my arm which still has bruising and the marks of where I got my bloods done, I was told that he was not allowed back in but when I tried to explain that the reasoning didn’t make sense and I was not listened to because he knew he was in the wrong, I thought that this bar would be good fun which it was until this bouncer ruined my experience I’m not sure that I will return if me and my boyfriend will get treated like this again, even though they have rules about the bar we treated it with respect and followed the rules I still do not understand why my boyfriend was kicked out”

“First time I ever went and it was a blast. Admittedly had a bit too much to drink and it was great to see one of the barstaff Emi who's my friend McDonald's breakfast the next day is coming in clutch. Heads up for anyone planning to go, it is a £6 entry fee”
