About Pier House Cafe and Bistro

Pier House Cafe and Bistro is a cafe by the pier on The Front in Beaumaris, with views across the Menai Strait. The menu is Welsh-British with a focus on seafood, and the kitchen sources ingredients locally wherever possible. Sauces and coleslaw are homemade, and the food is cooked from scratch. Breakfast includes a breakfast bowl, with a gluten free version for guests who need one. Eggs come fried, scrambled or poached, with sides of beans, baby tomato and spinach. Illy coffee is served to go with the food. Dogs are welcome here, and so are children.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return to the breakfast, praising the breakfast bowl and a gluten free version as freshly cooked with plenty of variety, alongside fried, scrambled and pushed eggs with beans, baby tomato and spinach. Close behind, the mussels are called fresh and full of flavour, one reviewer rates the fish and chips among the best they have had, and another describes a burger with homemade sauces, coleslaw and smoked bacon. Illy coffee, a kids' menu described as generous and tasty, and dog friendly seating also come up, and the view across the Menai Strait is a steady positive, particularly outside. Price is the main complaint. One reviewer paid for six halloumi fries and a burnt cheese and garlic ciabatta that was redone, another found a traybake overpriced, and a third waited a long time for a small bowl of frozen chips that arrived without cutlery. A few also found service slow at times. Even so, staff are mostly described as friendly, and one visitor mentions seeing no seagulls while eating outside.

“The staff were friendly and helpful. However the prices were high for what we got. We spent £6.50 on a cheese and garlic ciabatta that was burnt when we got it (although they redid it for us) and £12.50 on What turned out to be 6 halloumi fries. The salad that came with the fries was delicious. Overall we spent £29 on a coffee and a tea, halloumi fries and the garlic bread which felt like quite a lot given the quantity and quality of the food. The view was really beautiful and staff were friendly so maybe a place for a treat rather than to take a family.”

“We visited Pier House Cafe and Bistro recently and while the setting is lovely and the atmosphere was pleasant, we did feel a bit underwhelmed overall. We tried a traybake which, unfortunately, felt quite overpriced for what it was and didn’t quite meet our expectations, leaving us feeling a little dissatisfied. The staff were friendly and the cafe itself is nice enough for a stop off, but based on our experience we probably wouldn’t rush back for food. It might be better suited for a drink or a quick break rather than a full treat. A bit of a mixed visit for us, hence the 3 stars.”

“The Pier House Cafe and Bistro is always one of the highlights of our trips to Anglesey. My fiancée and I make a point of coming here as a special treat whenever we’re in the area, and it never disappoints. The mussels are absolutely fantastic—fresh, full of flavour, and cooked to perfection every time. The food is consistently excellent, and the quality really stands out. The location couldn’t be better, with beautiful views across the Menai Strait creating the perfect setting for a relaxing lunch. Whether you’re sitting inside or outside, it’s a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy great food. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. If you’re visiting Beaumaris, this is an absolute must. We always look forward to coming back, and it has become a special tradition every time we visit Anglesey.”

“My partner, a friend and I met up here for a much-needed catch-up, and we had a lovely visit. Sitting outside at the front was wonderful, especially on such a beautiful day, although the birds occasionally made their presence known! The service was friendly and polite throughout, though it was a little slow at times. The food was very enjoyable, well-presented, and clearly prepared with care. Overall, we had a great experience and would happily return. Being able to sit outside, relax, and enjoy the views really made the visit all the more pleasant.”
