About Corner on the Square

Corner on the Square is a licensed deli and eatery at 1 High St in Beauly, overlooking the village square on the North Coast 500 route, 12 miles west of Inverness. The off-licence stocks Scottish whisky and gin that are not on the high street, alongside a wine shelf and other spirits and liqueurs. A cafe shares the space with the deli counter, which sells Scottish produce, local specialities and traditional Scottish cheeses. The kitchen serves Scottish breakfasts, including a black pudding roll in a white or brown roll, as well as baked potatoes with fillings and home made cakes. A dedicated fruit and veg shop next to the deli stocks local farm produce, and ice cream is sold next door. Hampers can be ordered online or made up bespoke in store.

Customer Review Summary

Cappuccinos come up most, described as lovely and exceptional, with another reviewer praising the fabulous coffee. Close behind is the food: a really cheesy macaroni cheese that one diner puts among the nicest they have eaten, a black pudding roll on a white or brown roll, Scottish breakfasts, and baked potatoes in plentiful quantity with delicious fillings. Home made cakes also get a mention, though a chocolate and coconut slice crumbled apart, and the red onions in one side salad were overpowering. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and helpful, and reviewers also note the shelves of Scottish produce and the ice cream next door. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who chose a sit-down meal, only to discover the order had never been placed through, then received the wrong bread, sandwiches that were not toasted as asked, and a portion that felt small for the money. Another visitor came for Scottish cheeses, and the staff prepared a selection, then turned it into a last-minute takeaway without fuss.

“I’ve never written a review like this before, but I’ve also never had an experience like it either. We arrived and decided to have a sit in meal instead of a takeaway after which we were told to sit down and we’d be seen to soon. We waited at least five minutes before we were served, even though we knew what we were ordering. Once we had placed our order, we waited for at least 30 minutes before became apparent that the order had not been placed through, though we only realise this through looking at the cash machine at the right time. The food in total took 40 minutes to arrive, the bread was wrong, the sandwiches weren’t toasted as had been asked, and the amount of food for what we paid for was pretty shocking. Overall pretty poor”

“Went here for breakfast. Sorry no pics as I was in company. But the breakfast was great value for money and the Black pudding roll was excellent. Especially the offer off a white or brown roll.”

“Small cafe and deli in Beauly. We had baked potatoes which arrived in plentiful quantity with delicious fillings. The cafe and deli are in the same space which means it's busy but it didn't get overcrowded. Good, hearty, reliable fare if you are in need of lunch whilst touring the Highlands.”

“We had a delicious brunch, with exceptional cappuccinos! Cute, fun atmosphere, would highly recommend 👌”
