About The Victorian Tea Rooms
The Victorian Tea Rooms is a tea room in Barnsley, on The Arcade at number 12. The kitchen makes its cakes at home, with berry cheesecake and mini Victoria sandwich cakes among them, and afternoon teas are served for a sit-down tea. Breakfasts run all day, with large and veggie options, and a chicken baguette in gravy covers the savoury side. The drinks list includes an assortment of teas and a big selection of coffees. The rooms open Monday to Saturday, daytime only, and close on Sundays. Payment is cash only, so visitors should bring cash with them. Gift vouchers are available for anyone who wants to give a visit as a present.

“I was born in Barnsley but I have never come across a chicken baguette in gravy so I ordered it and this is what it looked like. Weird. There are lots of other, more standard fare on the menu if you are not tempted!”

Customer Review Summary
Homemade cakes are what reviewers praise most, with the coffee cake and the berry cheesecake singled out and several calling the cakes the best around. Afternoon tea comes close behind, with diners describing the sandwiches as the best they have had, the portions as generous and the service as quick, and one family noting that dietary requests were handled with no fuss. Breakfasts served all day, including a veggie breakfast and large cooked options, also draw mention, along with a big selection of coffees and a mocha one reviewer rates the best. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and the room is described as spotlessly clean and good value. Two reviewers add caveats: one found a chicken baguette served in gravy weird, though they note plenty of more standard dishes on the menu, and another says the only downside is that payment is cash only. One regular who has come since it opened says the staff and food are lovely, and a first-time visitor notes extra hot water arrived without being asked for.
