“We’ve been here twice before and it was excellent, so took the family of 6 for a birthday meal - what a disappointment We were booked at 6pm, and they already had no pizza base. The server didn’t tell us when he seated us or took our drinks order, he waited until someone asked for it and then told us. 2 of the party had to choose something that they didn’t really want as it’s a limited / small menu (which is fine if there’s something on there that you like), and when it came it wasn’t what it said on the menu. It should have been crispy chicken in lemon and garlic butter, but it was a creamy sauce that did not taste of garlic or lemon - and it was a chicken breast that wasn’t crispy … By 7pm when we ordered dessert, they had no chocolate fudge cake and the table next to us asked for 3 different wines that they didn’t have! It was busy so we didn’t like to make a scene, so ate up, paid the bill and left. The waitress was very pleasant, efficient and attentive so I can’t fault her, but I doubt very much we’ll be returning. Maybe they’ve put all the resources into their new pub, I don’t know, but what a terrible waste of time and money”

“Quite possibly the best food in Barnsley, and possibly in South Yorkshire. We had the Arancini and White Onion Soup to start, and it was delicious. For mains, we had the Burrata Tomato Pasta and the Vodka Chicken Parm, again both outstanding. Highly recommend.”

“Food was superb, service was great too. Only minor down side was it was quite hot and smoky in there, need to get better extraction I think. Menu was small but I don't mind that when it's all freshly made, nice open kitchen too. Will definitely be back if the menu changes regularly”

“My son took me for a mother’s day meal. My son had previously eaten here. Service was great. Lovely atmosphere and attention to detail superb. It was nice to see your food being cooked. I’m not a massive steak fan but fancied one and I wasn’t disappointed. The cooking of it was recommended to me and was perfect. Will definitely be revisiting.”

“We had this place recommended to us and booked a few weeks back - glad we did as it was busy. From the minute we walked in until we left it was absolutely superb. Service was friendly and welcoming and none of us could fault any aspect of our meal - it was excellent. Four starters, four mains, two bottles of wine, three pints, a gin and tonic and a coffee at £50 per person!!! Absolutely brilliant value and worth every penny. Simply could not fault our food - the polpette and the gambas starters were delicious. The beef pasta dish (12 hour) was simply stunning and the pizza was excellent - first time ever we didn’t have room for a dessert. Would highly recommend and will definitely return.”

Customer Review Summary

Mushroom arancini is the dish diners name most, with gambas pil pil close behind, and polpette, beef cheek croquette and white onion soup also singled out among the starters. Mains draw praise for the 12 hour beef pasta, lamb parpadelle, burrata tomato pasta, vodka chicken parm, pizza and a steak cooked as recommended, with olives and a salted caramel brownie also mentioned. Reviewers describe friendly service, huge portions, an open kitchen and a small menu they like because it changes regularly. One reviewer was glad to have booked weeks ahead because it was busy. The complaints are specific. Others mention a plate with a large crack, a hot and smoky dining room, loud nearby tables, and service a little slow on a busy Saturday. One family's birthday meal went worse: no pizza bases at 6pm, a chicken dish in a creamy sauce instead of the crispy lemon and garlic butter listed, and by dessert the chocolate fudge cake had run out.
