About The Eastfield Arms

The Eastfield Arms is a bar and grill on Wakefield Rd in Barnsley, run as a pub with a bar. Its grill menu centres on skillets, including a Moroccan chicken skillet and a curry feast, which gives lunch and dinner a hot main built around a single dish. Steak, chicken and gammon come off the grill, and the tomahawk steak is among the cuts ordered. Seating is walk-in, so guests can come in and take a table without arranging a visit ahead. Food orders can involve a wait at busy times, which is worth knowing before arriving with a group.

Customer Review Summary

Long waits for food are the most repeated complaint, with reviewers describing a wait of well over an hour on busy days like Mother's Day and Father's Day, and one saying the kitchen was not serving at all after a booked birthday table for a grandmother in a wheelchair. One reviewer said the chicken and gammon came out chewy and rubbery while the steak was cooked perfectly, and another said they received no apology or free drink after complaining. Praise centers on the food when it does arrive: diners call the tomahawk steak, seasoned salmon and curry feast delicious, hot and fresh, and one group cleared every plate. A reviewer found the Moroccan chicken skillet a little burnt and suggested that less popular dishes are not cooked as well. Several note friendly, polite staff who joked about being overstretched, though tables were missing cutlery, napkins and chairs. One reviewer was told dogs were not allowed and offered no alternative, while another said the pub let a wheelchair user inside before opening time.

“Went in with a dog, told dogs not allowed. Which is fair enough. Didn't say they could watch my dog while I ordered or try to find another compromise. This was in the morning and the pub was quiet..staff were busy chatting.”

“Tried this place a year ago and wasn’t impressed by a 1hr 20 minute wait, but thought we’d give it another try. Well what a mistake that was, waited 1hr 24 minutes this time. Not worth the wait and defo won’t be returning. Asked at the bar staff how much longer, the girl agreed we had waited more than we should have. Was told they are just starting it and be 5 minutes, just proves really that the meat comes precooked and thrown on the grill like other restaurants. The chicken, gammon was chewy/rubbery ie preheated. On the plus the steak was cooked perfect as these aren’t precooked and the restaurant beat the record by 4 minutes 🥳 So many people complaining to each other about the wait it’s a shame they don’t all leave reviews, maybe something would get done maybe more kitchen staff, new chef, I don’t know. It’s defo not a place to take kids, screaming and running about which I don’t blame them, They’re bored, hungry and tired.”

“We come in to the Eastfields arm and we ordered food and they said around 40 minutes which was respectful. So we waits 40 minutes then an hour and the food still hasn't come so we complained and we dint either get a free drink or no apology and said it was going to be another 20 minutes due to it being fathers day but it wasn't too busy or we could get a refund. We will not be coming back here for food”

“Website said it opened at 11 but when we got there at 11.40 they were closed and locked up. After explaining that we had a lady in a wheelchair and it was starting to rain, they let us in to sit and look through the menu. Service was ok so we weren't waiting too long for our food.”
