About The Food House

The Food House is a food court in Banbridge, at 82 Newry St, with a menu that spans burgers, wraps and breakfast plates. The Chuckwagon Steak Burger and the Chunky Italian Broth sit on the same list as baby potato hash with chorizo, one of the all-day breakfast dishes. Vegetarian and vegan options run through the menu, so the choice is not limited to meat dishes. Brunch options sit alongside the breakfast plates, and the hot wraps come with seasoned chips. For something sweeter, there is coffee with tray bakes and carrot cake. The kitchen also makes its own house hot sauce.

Customer Review Summary

The Mexican wrap draws the most mentions: a hot wrap packed with flavour and served piping hot beside seasoned chips, with another reviewer also praising the burger and wraps. Close behind is the breakfast hash. One diner calls it the best breakfast they have ever had, and a vegetarian loves the baby potato hash without the chorizo. The house hot sauce, carrot cake described as wonderfully moist, tray bakes and coffee also earn praise, and the breakfast choice runs from acai and bagels to eggs benedict and French toast. Reviewers repeatedly mention huge portions, reasonable prices, queues outside and a packed, lively room. Several describe friendly staff who helped with a menu they found confusing, including a high chair for a baby. The caveats are heat and consistency. One reviewer found the food tasty but very spicy and suggests asking before ordering. Another got large wings smothered in buffalo sauce on a first visit, then small wings with only a light coating and no sauce on two return visits.

“Eat here before your Game of Thrones Studio Tour. We were in Banbridge on a Sunday before visiting the Game of Thrones Studio Tour and spotted The Food House — there was actually a queue outside, which we took as a very good sign! Inside it was packed with locals, including lots of teenagers and young people, which made for a really lively, friendly atmosphere. And we soon discovered why it was so busy: the food was delicious, the portions were huge and the prices were very reasonable. There were also plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices. We were originally born in Britain but are now Spanish, so travelling with Spanish phones can sometimes be a bit of a nuisance. It was great to be able to connect easily to their Wi-Fi while we were there. We didn't completely understand the menu, so we asked our waitress for help. She couldn't have been kinder or more patient with us. We mentioned that we were heading to the GOT Studio Tour afterwards and she told us that several of her friends worked there. It was lovely chatting to such friendly, enthusiastic young people. I had the spicy chicken and Pete had the soup. Both were delicious and very generous portions. Somehow we still managed to share some carrot cake afterwards, which was wonderfully moist and tasty! Despite being extremely busy, we never felt rushed. If you're visiting Banbridge for the Game of Thrones Studio Tour, I can highly recommend eating at The Food House beforehand. Personally, I would eat here rather than waiting until you get to The Boulevard where you pick up the studio bus. Great food, great value and a lovely local atmosphere.”

“Went and tried their buffalo chicken wings because they were very highly recommended. First time, large wings smothered in buffalo sauce. Beautiful. Second time, small wings with just a buffalo coating, no sauce. Weird. Third time the same. Was the first time a fluke or do I keep on calling in the wrong times?”

“Time to escape housework and catch up with friends. No queues, welcome faces, always checking all is ok and Cashel brought smiles as he joked about no Nutella. A great morning. The food means there is so much choice acai or bagel or eggs benediction or french toast. Well done on excellent food and service.”
