Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the fish specials, with halibut and monkfish described as cooked perfectly and the dishes as interesting and flavoursome. The potted lobster, scallops and whole lobster with garlic and parsley butter also draw praise, and treacle tart and tiramisu get the same for dessert. Reviewers also mention a kids' fish and chips, vegan Thai noodles and garlic gnocchi. Criticism is modest but specific. One found the lobster underwhelming, and another wanted more flavour in the potted shrimp, crab and lobster and said the mussels needed de-bearding. A third noted the monkfish sauce was advertised with chilli that nobody tasted. Several appreciate that dogs are welcome in a separate room. Many advise booking ahead because the place fills up, even for a weekday lunch. One reviewer mentions staff polishing cutlery loudly between services. Another recalls the chef making up a little sauce that really made the meal.

“There are separate rooms for dog owners, the ambience is cheerful and busy. Staff is friendly and attentive. Food is quite good, glad they serve smaller portions of soups. Chowder was rich but not heavy which was great and full of veggies. Lobster is also served as half or whole and the price is quite decent but I found it a bit underwhelming. The hake portion was also pretty good and the chorizo jam was a great sweet addition , potatoes were delish and greens a welcomed addition for some freshness. Nice wine list, not crazy expensive either. Book in advance of you can, I can see why it gets so busy. We booked a table at 20:30 and got brought forward 45 min which suited us , the lady in the phone was very nice and understanding. Overall a great place to eat.”

“Went for a birthday lunch and had three courses. Necessary to book in advance because when we arrived there was a sign outside saying the restaurant was fully booked and this was a weekday lunch. The restaurant is light and bright and the staff were welcoming. We had our dog with us and they have a dog friendly area which is great because it works for everyone as the dogs are segregated. To start we had scallops, black pudding and a quince puree from the specials board which was delicious, although only three (not huge) scallops for £18, but that's the way things are these days I guess. We also had the potted lobster which was tasty and the bread it came with was also very nice. For mains we had whole lobster with garlic and parsley butter which came with fries and salad. I was given the option to swap chips for skinny fries which was great as I much prefer them to big chips. The lobster was delicious and the fries were well seasoned, the salad had a nice dressing and provided a good palate cleanser against the richness of the lobster and fries. Lobster was market price which was £60. My partner had monkfish from the specials board which was served with a creamy bean and pancetta sauce. The sauce was advertised as having chilli but we didn't taste any chilli. The fish was lovely, as was the sauce but a bit of green veg wouldn't have gone amiss as it was quite rich. For dessert we shared treacle tart which was amazing - clearly homemade and had a great texture as the breadcrumbs were left quite large but bound together with rich treacle. This came with a generous dollop of vanilla cream and some berries which was much needed against the richness of the tart. We had picpoul de pinet to drink which went wonderfully with the food. Service was friendly and competent. Overall would recommend for a special treat meal and would certainly go again. It'd be a nice place to bring visiting family.”

“Wonderful lunch in the vibrant, friendly and excellent restaurant. Staff are the most welcoming and helpful, and chef made up a little sauce which was superb and really made the meal. Great value for the quality of food you get. A true gem.”

“Went for a friend’s birthday and was booked in. They were fully booked otherwise and I can see why. The kid’s fish and chips was delicious (I stole some of course) as a group we had the mussels, the prawn linguine and a couple of the vegan options: Thai noodles and garlic gnocchi. Nice atmosphere and food was great quality just make sure you book ahead as it’s very popular. Daughter was very happy with the ice cream sundae”
