Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return to the tasting menu, describing it as inventive yet approachable and naming the cheese soufflé as a standout. Close behind are the trout tartare, the lamb, the fresh oatcakes with the cheese course, fantastic breads and a haggis snack one reviewer found extraordinary. Several praise the chef for explaining each dish with enthusiasm, and the front of house for guiding wine choices, with an extensive list paired to each course. Reviewers also note the kitchen's willingness to cater to dietary requirements. Overnight guests mention a warm welcome, nicely decorated rooms and a breakfast of poached eggs done to perfection. The one criticism comes from a single reviewer who found the lamb a bit chewy and the portions too big for a nine course menu, though another called the portions very well portioned. Several guests who ate only in the restaurant say it ranks among the best meals they have had in Scotland, and one describes a cocktail offered on arrival.

“One of the best meals (tasting menu) I have ever had in my life - extraordinarily good. Garry is clearly a brilliant chef.”

“We didn't stay overnight, but if the rooms are as good as the food, they easily deserve 5 stars! Superb tasting menu. My pal (foodie and WSET 4 diploma'd!) absolutely adored the meal and wines. Thank you, Maria and Garry. Regards BD :)”

“We were there for the tasting menu so can't comment on the rooms.front of house service from Maria was first class in very pleasant surroundings. The most outstanding food I have eaten in presented by Garry the Chef who explained each dish with such passion and enthusiasm . A real culinary gem of Scottish fare.”

“Fantastic restaurant, super kind server and mega enthusiastic chef serving all his delicious food. The trout tartare and cheese soufflé was outstanding… Two little points for me: the lamb was a bit chewy and the portions a bit too big for a 9 courses tasting menu however I seemed to be the only one not eating it all. They are attentive in a romantic atmosphere, so what’s not to like? Hope we can come back soon!”

“Easily one of the best meals in Scotland and can go up against any in NYC or London. Upon arrival you’ll be offered to relax with a well-prepared cocktail. Maria will make sure you order the right wine with your courses. If there is a cheese course on offer, you should take it and enjoy the fresh oatcakes! We also had a cheese soufflé and lamb, fantastic breads, a soup, a haggis snack that cannot be described except to say it was extraordinary. Did not stay in the rooms.”
