About The Silver Darling

The Silver Darling is a seafood restaurant in Aberdeen, based in the former Customs House on Pocra Quay at the mouth of Aberdeen Harbour. The building has been renovated, and the interiors were redone as part of that work. Upstairs, the dining area has floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the beach, the harbour and the fishing village of Footdee, so guests eating there can watch the waterfront while they dine. The setting ties the restaurant directly to the working harbour it sits beside, and the seafood focus follows from that position at the water's edge.

Customer Review Summary

Scallops come up most often, cooked well and paired with crispy bacon in one account, alongside the halibut with risotto and pea puree, which one diner calls the best dish of the night. Oysters, langoustine bisque, grilled lobster, fish cakes and pil pil prawns also draw praise, and the haggis starter and fish and chips earn good words from several. Views over the harbour and sea, including dolphins and sunsets, are repeatedly mentioned, as are friendly, quick staff who handled a full house and a group of thirteen. Criticism centres on uneven dishes: the octopus and squid starter was chewy, the lobster plain and smaller than expected, the fish and chips with large potato logs a miss for one, the sticky toffee sauce over sweet, and the samphire bhaji too dense. One reviewer finds the room loud when busy. Several suggest reserving, and one reviewer praises the children's menu for serving fresh dishes rather than fast-food options.

“An incredible place to experience and eat, spiral staircase up to incredible views of the sea and harbour. We both had a scallop starter which was excellent, very well presented too. Followed by fish and steak main courses which were both lovely, my fillet was cooked well done which I like and was juicy and excellent. The staff were excellent and the food was delivered quickly. We shall be back.”

“Brilliant atmosphere from start to finish, friendly but professional staff. Lovely drinks and food was a strong 10/10. Best meal we’ve had in a long time and price reflected quality but not ridiculous pricing. We’ll definitely be returning. Thank you Silver Darling”

“We had a lovely lunch here, the view is really nice if you can get a table at the window side, pasta was very tasty, a bit too much sauce to my liking but tasteful. The fish and chips were delicious, so were the haggis and tasty pan seared fish as starters. Friendly service, recommended for sure!”

“The location is gorgeous and the building itself brings a vibe of an old lighthouse. The restaurant is fairly clean and the staff is polite and respectful, providing support when one can't choose. Now, going to la piece de resistance: the food. Absolutely and irrevocably top notch. The seafood linguine was very well balanced and the melted cheese wasn't overpowering the delicious pieces of seafood. The waitbait was perfectly cooked and the little sauce was good, too. Definitely try the fish cakes and the pil pil prawns. Overall, the food was divine and I can't wait to go there for a second meal.”

“Incredible food with panoramic views of the water, and at multiple times we could see dolphins popping up nearby. On a Monday evening it was a full house but the waitstaff took care of everything and we felt well attended to. Highly recommend, and get a reservation!”
