About The Stubborn Duckling Ltd
The Stubborn Duckling is a modern British restaurant inside the Victoria Hotel in Aberaeron. The Sunday roast comes as lamb rump, belly pork or beef, served with Yorkshire pudding, gravy and cauliflower cheese, and a two-course Sunday lunch option is available. Pan fried hake appears as the fish of the day, and lamb belly also features on the menu. A bar with its own seating area handles drinks, separate from the main dining room. Reservations are required, including for Sunday lunch.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is what reviewers raise most, with the roast beef, lamb rump and belly pork served with Yorkshire pudding, crispy roast potatoes, glazed carrots and cauliflower cheese singled out, and one calling the gravy among the best they have had. Close behind are the hake, praised by two diners, one of them served with a mushy pea cake and triple cooked chips, along with the pea soup, lamb belly starter and short rib. Desserts and extras also earn mentions, including a crème brûlée, a ginger cake, and an espresso with a raspberry gel cube and fudge. Several describe the staff as friendly and welcoming, and the wine list is called good. The main caveat is that the restaurant is easy to walk past, and two reviewers say it is poorly signposted. One reviewer calls the menu limited in range and the price high, though others find it reasonably priced. One pair squeezed in thanks to a cancellation, then booked Sunday lunch for their next visit.

“What a very nice find, excellent food. Didn’t have the starter, made do with a very good pint of Guinness! Restaurant wasn’t very well sign posted, in fact I walked past. A Thursday night was expecting it to be a little busier than just 2 people a few more couples came in right after me to add some extra atmosphere chatter with good tunes playing in the background. I went straight for Fish of the Day which was a pan fried hake, with a mushy pea cake with scraps and triple cooked chips. Really excellent. I finished with a light option coffee espresso (you can choose your coffee or tea) with a lovely raspberry gel cube and fudge (2 cubes each!) which were superb. Would definitely come back if in area again.”

“Probably the nicest meal we've ever had anywhere. Beef short rib and squid starter and we both had steak mains with patatas bravas and fries. Unbelievably tasty. Service was great and the place has a nice atmosphere. Clean toilets and lovely decor. Can't wait to return.”

“We have been twice here, while staying in Aberaeron, and on both occations we were not disappointed. The first time we just managed to squeeze in, due to a cancellation and we found it that good, we booked for Sunday lunch, and we are so glad we did. What a Sunday lunch. I must say, it is one of the best Sunday lunches I have had for a long time, both on the quality of the food and the value. We were made to feel very welcome by the Italian bar waiter. Very professional, knowledgeable and polite. A man who seemed happy in his work. Big question. Would I return and recommend. DEFINATLY YES. If you like my honest review please follow me.”

“Lovely restaurant food is limited in range but cooked exquisitely. The wine selection is good and reasonable in price. The staff and service is excellent. Price is high but overall I'm happy to recommend this for people looking for good food in a lovely atmosphere.”
